I have Adapted!

I have Adapted. Hell yes, I have Adapted!

I have adapted to the pile of clothes in my cupboard while I see that person shivering naked in the as the night howls.

I have adapted to the pollution. I have adapted to the sight of garbage from my window. I have adapted to the stains of ‘paan’ on the staircase walls. I have adapted to the blazing heat of the sun. I have adapted to the filth of the river Cauvery when I go for a swim there. I have adapted to the sight of the plastic bottles when I trek in the green forests. I have adapted to the smoke over my face in public places. I have adapted to bribery. I have adapted to the girls being stared at. I have adapted  to the false blames being thrust upon me. I have adapted to illegitimate ways to get the driving license. I have adapted to ‘drinking and driving’. I have adapted to seeing the garbage outside the dustbin, or rather the overflowing dustbin. I have adapted to not being communicated well with. I have adapted to be not given importance. I have adapted to not realizing my true self. I have adapted to being looked down. I have adapted to the meaningless abuses given when I do not have change. I have adapted to the dusty lanes. I have adapted to the accident by the next lane. I have adapted to the begging of kids, their mothers and the elderly. I have adapted to talking behind the back.  I have adapted to the inability of waking up early and going for a walk. I have adapted to seeing the inequality between me and my siblings. I have adapted to the edible food being dumped in drains when there are people dying out of hunger. I have adapted to the stones in rice. I have adapted to the ‘Jugaad’ and ‘Chalta hai’. I have adapted to the dog being run over by that car. I have adapted to all the rallies and protests. No wonder, I have adapted to the running taps and the dripping flush.

I have adapted to the current situation. Starting from home, locality, going beyond the city and centre. Even beyond to impact the mother Earth. But why shall I do anything? I have Adapted. Oh, I am just another carefree person.
